ЁЯЩП The Teaching of Kanchi Maha Periyava: The Purity of Food (Ahaara Suddhi)
The discourses of the Sage of Kanchi, Kanchi Sri Chandrasekharendra Saraswati Swamigal (Maha Periyava), have been compiled and published in several volumes under the title, 'Deivathin Kural' (Voice of God).
One of the most crucial subjects that the Kanchi Maha Periyava taught the Brahmin community was Ahaara Suddhi (Purity of Food).
ЁЯН╜️ Maha Periyava's Counsel to Brahmins
In several parts of his divine discourses, Maha Periyava specifically mentioned that Brahmins should unnecessarily avoid eating in hotels, canteens, and similar public places.
He emphasized that according to traditions, the purity of the food (Suddhi) and who cooked it (Paaka Suddhi) are paramount for a Brahmin's spiritual progress and mental clarity. He warned that the Suddhi (purity) of food is highly likely to be compromised when prepared in public settings.
ЁЯЫС A Real Incident Highlighting the Consequence of Ignoring Ahaara Suddhi
Let us look at a real-life incident concerning a Brahmin who ignored this teaching and the resulting consequences.
There was a Brahmin who had no bad habits (like smoking or consuming non-vegetarian food) and who held a moderate belief in traditional practices. A few years after his retirement, he was suddenly diagnosed with cancer.
His family was perplexed, as he had no bad habits and there was no prior family history of cancer. As they investigated how this disease could have affected him, one realization struck everyone.
Though he ate less at home, for many years he frequently went out and indulged in favorite snacks like vada, bajji, and bonda sold at ordinary tea stalls and eateries.
⚕️ Medical Warnings
When doctors researched the various factors that could cause cancer in his case, they stated that this habit could be one of the contributing reasons.
They explained that:
* Cooking oil (be it sesame, groundnut, or even palm oil) should never be reheated and reused (recycled) after frying items like vadas or bondas once.
* Using recycled, reheated oil is known to be carcinogenic and can lead to cancer.
Therefore, if that individual, who was a Brahmin, had adhered to Kanchi Periyava's advice and avoided consuming food prepared unhygienically in public places, this affliction might have been prevented.
ЁЯМЯ Conclusion
Ahaara Suddhi is one of the most vital pieces of advice given by Kanchi Maha Periyava. The purity of food is not just essential for physical health; it is crucial for the purity of the mind and for the improvement of our thoughts.
Therefore, through this message, I request that everyone incorporate Kanchi Periyava’s very important teaching—Ahaara Suddhi—into their lives.
Namaskarams!
