Reasons for Brahmins population which is very low in Tamilnadu

There is no correct figure about the percentage. In normal as per the media news and from different sources, population is around 2 to 3 percentage.

There were several reasons for this.

1. People who born in this community needs to be strict vegetarian, lot of restrictions in food habits, needs to follow some rituals which are daily mandatory, for the maximum it is difficult to follow. So they try to go away from brahminical customs by the way of intercaste marriage etc.

2. Nature itself limitize the Brahmin population. Broken mirror is broken, joining it again is difficult. In rest of the communities even if they indulge in intercaste affairs, they can include the new member and accept them in their community. But for a Brahmin, if he/she indulges in intercaste marriage/affairs then he/she lost their charm and again they cannot come back to Brahmin community. This is the another reason.

3. Karma plays the major role in Brahmin life. As per sastras to born in Brahmin community, he/she needs to cross n number of births/deaths. By their higher good deeds in their past janmas there was a opportunity for that athma to born in the Brahmin community. So Brahmin will be punished immediately in their life time for their wrong doings, when compared to the people born in other communities.

4. Once Brahmin also had 4 to 5 children in minimum due to the early marriage, but later (after implementation of saradha law), their population considerably reduced. So Brahmin have one or 2 children alone, that too parent had difficulty in making them the perfect brahminical guy/girl. And also they needs to take extreme care to protect them from intercaste affairs.

5. Female against the male ratio is declining, which affects the Brahmin community most. There are near about 1 % unmarried Brahmin males crossed 40’s, who find difficult to get the proper match.

6. Extreme poor and very rich, Brahmins falls in the above categories, cannot able to make their next generation as Brahmin, due to intercaste affairs, worst food habits etc. Only middle class people alone protecting the culture but their percentage is also low.

7. People with rich brahminical qualities are not properly recognised with in the community itself and they are been teased by the people with in the community and also outside the community. So no one ready to show them to the society that they're are strict in brahminical customs.

8. Maximum Brahmins skipping the sandhyavandana, which is considered to be the sin, due to which their further generation lost their brahminical heritage.

9. Very rarely Brahmin crossed the sea following the Brahmin tradition, many gave up their duties and mingled with other religions and communities.
