IS MISA act Implemented during emergency is a golden period in Tamilnadu?
MISA stands for Maintenance of Internal Security Act. It is abbreviated as MISA.
DMK members often boast that they have faced the MISA atrocities, but let's look at what actually happened during the MISA period.
Indira Gandhi suddenly declared an emergency in 1975, when she was convicted by the Allahabad High Court and was about to lose her position.
Emergency is generally declared only in times of war or when there is an extraordinary situation in the country. These are ways to bring an emergency, democratically.
But Indira Gandhi declared a state of emergency when she was convicted and was about to lose her position.
During the Emergency, you cannot speak against the government. The Indian government can arrest anyone as a precautionary measure and does not even have to give a reason for it.
Emergency was misused in the northern states. Congress used it to take revenge on their political opponents. Sanjay Gandhi, the son of Indira Gandhi, committed atrocities in North India.
But as far as Tamil Nadu is concerned, the DMK was in power at that time. The people were suffering immensely due to the unprecedented corruption and lawlessness of the DMK.
The then DMK government had committed corruption worth hundreds of crores by saying that the sugar sack was being eaten by termites, and the then DMK government had frozen several hundred crores of it by saying that it would clean the Coovam river and then took the funds without taking any action.
The Veeranam scam was a hot topic at that time. The Andhra contractor who took up the project , committed suicide because he could not continue the project due to the corruption committed by the DMK.
Thus, when the emergency was in force, the anarchic rule of the DMK was going on here.
Therefore, using this emergency, Indira Gandhi took strict action against the anarchic activities committed by the DMK.
Through MISA, she imprisoned hundreds of DMK members who had committed corruption and lawlessness.
Many people were afraid to even call themselves DMK members, so much so that law and order in Tamil Nadu was highly respected and monitored.
The MISA Act, which was brought in during that crisis, was used very well in Tamil Nadu.
Those who knew the politics of that time would even call the emergency crisis the golden age of Tamil Nadu.
Even those who were not afraid of Sami(god) would be afraid of Misa if they turned it around.(சாமிக்கு பயப்படாதவன் கூட மிசா வுக்கு பயப்படுவான்) (சாமி when you reverse it , it becomes மிசா).
Therefore, people sarcastically said at that time that even those who were not afraid of Sami would be afraid of Misa.
Although the Emergency was misused in North India, it was used very well in Tamil Nadu. The strict MISA Act was imposed on rowdies and those who committed anarchy. Therefore, even now those who know that politics well will say that the MISA period was the golden age of Tamil Nadu.
Only those who are now over the age of seventy will tell you how the Emergency was used so well in Tamil Nadu.
There was no such thing as the MISA atrocities that the DMK proudly talks about, the people of Tamil Nadu were happy because DMK people were punished for the anarchy they committed.
So if DMK say that we are the ones who saw the MISA and talks about from time to time, please pass it off with a sense of humor.
