BJP's best election performance in Tamilnadu
In 1996, Tamil Nadu election field was in the favour of DMK and its alliance. BJP was not in any major alliances.
By 1996 BJP party was not much familiar in Tamilnadu.
By that time itself, bjp had won from Padmanabapuram assembly constituency in kanyakumari district.

Later bjp victory continued in 1998 parliament election. BJP won in Admk alliance. (3 out 5 seats won by bjp , in coimbatore, Nilgiris and Trichy parliament seats). This was one of the first ever best performance in Admk alliance.
During 1999 parliament election, alliance swap had happened and bjp contested in DMK alliance and won 4 out of 6 parliament seats it contested. (Seats won were coimbatore, Nilgiris, Trichy and Nagercoil).
In 2001, assembly election bjp had won 4 assembly seats out of it contested in 21 Seats . ( Karaikudi, Mylapore, mayiladuthurai and thalli assembly seats).
After 2001, there is no remarkable victory to bjp as it contested alone in subsequent parliament and assembly elections.
But by 2021 assembly election bjp had won 4 out of 20 assembly seats it contested. ( Coimbatore south, modakurichi, Nagercoil and tirunelveli).
After annamalai become the bjp president for tamilnadu unit, bjp had contested in third front without DMK and admk major alliances, in 2024 parliament election. No win to bjp , but secured highest percentage of vote share.(7% increase in vote share).
Annamalai takes the party to next level, hope for betterment in 2026 assembly elections.
